Accrington v Church
Sunday June 22nd 2008

From the Dressing Room

tall stories

We extend a warm welcome to today’s visitors who are our Hyndburn neighbours Church. Their team today contains three ex Accrington players – Brothers Sagawat and Nasser Hussain and Adam Greenwood (aka Cheesy), so they will be fired up and hoping to do well on their return to Thorneyholme Road. We are well aware after recently winning at Church that today’s game will not be an easy affair, but if we play to the standard of our form so far this season, then we are more than capable of producing another winning performance to keep us challenging at the top of the league.

Last weekends strange set of fixtures saw us top the table on Saturday night after defeating Burnley, and twelve points behind after suffering a loss to the same opposition following Sundays game. It was terrific to see ”Bumble” back in action and helping us to a win on Saturday and a pity to see him pull up with Hamstring trouble, we all hope he is feeling better by now and not too sore. A major factor in our run of good results this year is down to the on-field team relationship between the Skipper and Graham Lloyd, it is a great boost to any captain to have someone of his experience and knowledge to turn to for help and advice.

I know that Dibber appreciates being able to discuss the state of the game with Graham and other senior players like Matt and Damian, but ultimately he makes the decisions on the field and so far judging by our league position he is doing a great job. We have some important games coming up thick and fast over the next few weeks and I hope that you continue to encourage the lads in every game – our supporters are very important to us so keep on cheering us along.

Particularly in two weeks we return to Burnley for a Worsley Cup Semi-Final and it will be a big help to have as many of you there as possible to help us on our way hopefully to the final. Finally my apologies for a slightly shorter programme this week due to print difficulties, normal service will be resumed for the next game.

Enjoy the game
Ian Wilson
