An opening stand of 170 by the Wood family helped strugglers Rawtenstall to a 9 wicket win over bottom club Accrington at Thorneyholme Road. Chasing 173 for victory, Peter hit an unbeaten 79, including eight fours, and Richard hit six fours in his 54 before falling to skipper Paul Barratt, one of eight bowlers used by Accrington. Professional Guy Whittall had earlier taken 4-56 with Afrus Ali picking up a career best 3-38 in Accrington's 172-9. It was Pat Rush who made the breakthrough by removing openers Steve Birtwistle (2) at 6 and Mark Stevenson (7) at 48. Professional Chad Grainger (79 with seven fours and five sixes) and skipper Paul Barratt (27) put on 71 for the 3rd wicket before Grainger fell to his opposite number. Barratt departed at 130 to Ali with Whittall picking up Tofeeq Khan (23) at 153. Two runs later Tariq Hussain (5) fell to Ali with Whittall trapping Martin Whittle (2) in front one run later. Scott Greaves (4) fell to Ali at 161 and Whittall had Mick Wilson (2) caught behind by Peter Barnes at 166. Stefan Heins (5 not out) and Len Dewhurst (3 not out) were the unbeaten batters when the innings closed on 172-9.
