A fine all round performance from sub professional Peter Sleep took Ramsbottom to a 70 run win over Accrington at Acre Bottom. The Lancashire 2nd XI Coach hit an unbeaten 102, and then took 5-55 from 17 overs to restrict the visitors to 141-4. Jack Simpson also claimed five victims for Ramsbottom. After losing skipper Simpson (4) at 5 and Ian Bell (27) at 44, Sleep and Steve Dearden put on 112 for the 3rd wicket. Azad Akram broke the stand by cleaning up Dearden for 48 but Nick Riley joined Sleep to add another 50 before being run out for 20. Sleep hit ten fours and a six in his unbeaten 102 with Alan Howarth unbeaten on 2 when the innings closed on 211 - 4 after 44 overs. Riley trapped opener Mark Stevenson (1) in front at 5 and Garfield Moreton had Paul Barratt (37) caught by Steve Hall at 59. One run later Sleep had Russell Edmonds (14) caught by Chris Hall. Martin Whittle (6) was caught behind by Simpson off Sleep at 96 and new professional Chad Grainger (3) fell to Moreton at 104 with Simpson taking his second catch. Three runs Tofeeq Khan (3) was stumped by Simpson off Sleep as was Akram (2) at 128. Skipper Brian Holmes (7) also fell to the Sleep-Simpson combo in between at 124 with number ten Damian Clarke (8) chipping a return catch to Chris Hall at 140. Wayne Roberts was unbeaten on 12 with Len Dewhusrt yet to score when the innings closed on 141-9.
