A maiden league century by professional Chad Grainger couldn't prevent Accrington going down to an 8 wicket defeat at Nelson. Grainger hit thirteen fours in making 100. After the loss of Tofeeq Khan (1) to Jason Smith at 3, Grainger and opener Mark Stevenson (38) put on 143 before the amateur fell to Matthew Parkinson. Parkinson (3-44) also cleaned up Paul Barratt (7) at 153 and Grainger at 162. Russell Edmonds and Martin Whittle were both run out for 7 at 176 and 178. Skipper Brian Holmes (13 not out) and Tariq Hussain (8 not out) took the score to 202-6 when the innings closed after 46 overs. Khan removed Phillip Pickles (6) at 32 and Len Dewhurst held a return catch off Duncan Spencer (22) at 34 but professional Joe Scuderi (94 not out) and Paul Garaghty (62 not out) put on an unbroken 169 to see Nelson to victory in the 43rd over.
