The local derby at Thorneyholme Road saw Enfield beat bottom club Accrington by 43 runs. Phil Stanley top scored his 55 in Enfield's 172-5. The opener hit four fours and a six in his maiden senior half century. He added 89 with Andy Barker (39) before the Enfield skipper was caught behind by Russell Edmonds off Azad Akram. Mas Ahmed (22) was next to go caught by skipper Paul Barratt off Tariq Hussain at 124. Professional Franklyn Rose (7) was run out at 143 and Stanley fell to the Barratt-Hussain combo at the same score. Warren Eastham (16) was caught by Steve Birtwistle off professional Chad Grainger at 166 with Mick Devenney (12 not out) and Neil Holmes (0 not out) both unbeaten when the innings closed after a rain reduced 42 overs. Accrington's reply got off to a decent start with openers Mark Stevenson and Edmonds putting on 37 before Stevenson (12) fell to Rose in the 13th over. Grainger (2) was caught by Barker off Rose at 46 and Barratt (12) was run out at 72. Edmonds (31) and Wayne Roberts (9) fell to Devenney at 83 and 94. Damian Clarke picked up Birtwistle (10) at 100 and Martin Whittle (8) at 111 with Rose (3-47) cleaning up Scott Greaves (7) at 119. Hussain (9 not out) and Akram (5 not out) were at the crease when the innings closed on 129-8 after 42 overs.
