Title chasing East Lancs beat bottom club Accrington by 106 runs at Alexandra Meadows. Half centuries from opener Dave Pearson and skipper Mark Lomas helped the home side pile up 206-5. Pearson hit four fours in his 51, passing 10,000 Lancashire League runs before being run out at 137. Daryl Redhead was first out when he was bowled by Scott Greaves for 29 at 50. Pearson and Lomas then added 87 for the 2nd wicket. Lomas hit four fours in his 68 before falling to Azad Akram at 176. Akram (a career best 3-39) also removed professional Billy Stelling (24) at 204 and Phil Mercer (1) at 206 off the final ball of the innings. Accrington lost openers Russell Edmonds (3) and skipper Mark Stevenson (18) to Stelling and Nas Iqbal at 23. Iqbal also removed professional Chad Grainger (3) at 31. Paul Kelly sent back Tofeeq Khan (18) at 52 with Mercer cleaning up Stefan Heins (0) at 56. Ian Haworth removed Wayne Roberts (5) at 69 and Lomas trapped Steve Birtwistle in front for a career best 29 at 93. One run later Akram fell to Haworth without scoring. The innings ended when Iqbal (3-15) returned to claim his 100th Lancashire League wicket by cleaning up Tariq Hussain (13) at 100 with Greaves unable to bat. Len Dewhurst was again unbeaten on 0.
