Accrington v Church
Former Accrington captain Mark Aspin hit 71 in Church's 42 run win over his former club at Thorneyholme Road. Tofeeq Khan removed openers Alec Holt (7) and skipper Phil Sykes (18) at 21 and 42. Professional Matthew Mott and Neil Perry added 50 before the Australian was caught by his opposite number Chad Grainger off Tariq Hussain for 41. Perry and Aspin put on 74 for the 4th wicket when Perry (41) was caught and bowled by Stefan Heins. Trevor Hatch (7) fell to Len Dewhurst at 189 and Aspin was caught by Hussain off Scott Greaves at 212 after hitting seven fours and three sixes in his 63 ball knock. Nick Westwell (7) was run out at 222 and Peter Gilrane (10) was caught by skipper Paul Barratt off Greaves four runs later. Ken Fergusson (7 not out) and his son Craig (4 not out) were at the crease when the innings closed on 236-8 after 46 overs. Mott took 3-35 with Barratt top scoring with 60, including nine fours, in Accrington's 137-7 which was terminated after 35 overs due to rain with the home side needing to have scored 180 for victory. Thomas O'Neill sent back Mark Stevenson (2) at 13 and Mott cleaned up Grainger (4) at 17. Ken Fergusson removed opener Russell Edmonds (16) at 63 and Hussain (1) two runs later. Westwell had Khan caught by O'Neill at 86 and Mott picked up Steve Birtwistle (15) at 119 and Barratt at 121. Heins (4 not out) and Wayne Roberts (10 not out) were at the crease when the rain came.
